The Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) traded commodities worth 48.83 billion birr during the 2025/26 budget year, exceeding its annual target by 67.8 percent, according to the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration.
The exchange had set a target of 29.1 billion birr in export commodity transactions for the fiscal year. Its actual performance was 19.73 billion birr above target, marking a 79 percent increase from the 27.2 billion birr recorded during the 2024/25 budget year.
During the 12-month period, ECX issued quality assurance certificates for 14,327 commodity samples, including 8,499 coffee samples and 5,828 samples of oilseeds and pulses.
The exchange also conducted quality inspections and issued grade certifications for 2,314 vehicles transporting a combined 38,710 tonnes of commodities for cooperative unions and participants engaged in direct market-linkage transactions outside the exchange floor.
In addition, ECX provided weighing services for 17,648 vehicles carrying a total of 695,073 tonnes of commodities during the fiscal year.
As part of efforts to broaden the commodities traded through the exchange, ECX also finalized product quality grading contracts for the introduction of opal, cotton, and hides and skins into its trading system.
