Ethiopia’s state-owned power distributor earned 33.65 billion birr in the first four months of the fiscal year, the company’s chief executive said, supported by strong energy sales and rising customer connections.
Getu Geremew, CEO of the Ethiopian Electric Utility, told Fana Digital that the utility achieved 97% of its 33.72 billion birr revenue target for the period. Energy sales accounted for 22.21 billion birr, or 99% of the planned figure.
The utility added 153,973 new customers over the four months, he said, as efforts to expand electricity access continue nationwide.
Getu also noted progress in digital payments, with 95% of customers settling bills through electronic channels in October, part of a broader push to modernize the payment system.
