The Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA) has approved the registration of 5 million existing shares of Addis Bank S.C., marking another milestone in the development of Ethiopia’s capital market.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, ECMA announced that it approved Addis Bank’s Registration Statement on June 29, 2026, registering 5,000,000 shares currently held by the bank’s shareholders.
The registration was conducted pursuant to Articles 4 and 29 of the Public Offer and Trading of Securities Directive No. 1030/2024, which requires all securities offered or sold to the public, unless specifically exempted, to be registered with the Authority. The directive also requires issuers to register securities already held by shareholders before proceeding with any public issuance.
ECMA stressed that the registration is a regulatory requirement and does not represent an endorsement of Addis Bank or its securities. The Authority clarified that the notice should not be interpreted as an offer to sell securities, a solicitation to purchase securities, or approval of a public offering.
With the registration of its 5 million existing shares, Addis Bank joins the growing number of institutions preparing for participation in Ethiopia’s newly established capital market as the country continues implementing its public securities issuance and trading framework.
