Ride-hailing company Yango has expanded its operations to Hawassa, becoming the first city outside Addis Ababa to host the service in Ethiopia.
The company announced that users in Hawassa can now access transport services through its mobile application, including tuk-tuks (locally known as Bajaj), four-wheeled Bajaj vehicles, and motorcycle taxis. To encourage early adoption, Yango is offering a 30% discount on the first three rides for new users in the city.

Yango has partnered with Elna Trading and Contrast Trading to facilitate its entry into Hawassa’s transport market. The service will operate under two main fare categories: the Bajaj Tariff, covering both three-wheeled and four-wheeled Bajaj vehicles, and the Moto Tariff, which serves motorcycle-based transport.
According to the company, Hawassa was selected due to its growing demand for urban mobility and increasing readiness for digital transport solutions.
Yango Ethiopia Country Manager Dr. Kenekaalem Abebe stated that the expansion aims to improve urban transportation convenience for passengers while also creating additional income opportunities for driver-partners using the platform.
Sheger FM 102.1 reported that Yango, which began its Ethiopian operations in November 2023, continues to scale its services as part of its broader presence across more than 30 countries in Africa, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Asia.
The launch in Hawassa is expected to broaden digital mobility options in the city and enhance access to more flexible transport services for residents and visitors alike.
