M-PESA Ethiopia has announced that its newly launched M-PESA Lehulum (Au-0) app is currently inaccessible on smartphones using Ethio Telecom mobile data, leaving customers unable to log in, transact, or retrieve their funds.
The app, launched on December 1, 2025, is a telecom-agnostic, customer-centric financial services platform that allows any Ethiopian—regardless of their mobile network—to use M-PESA. The service had received full approval from the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) and INSA, marking a major step in expanding digital financial inclusion.
In a public statement, M-PESA Ethiopia clarified that the issue only affects users connected through Ethio Telecom mobile data, while the app remains functional through other internet connections. The company stated that its technical teams are working urgently to restore full access and are actively engaging with regulators to resolve the disruption.
M-PESA Ethiopia, a legally registered standalone entity in the country and holder of a Payment Instrument Issuer (PII) license, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted access to the digital financial tools customers rely on.
