The International Coffee Organization (ICO) has launched the Coffee Market Intelligence Platform, an interactive data tool that brings global coffee prices, trade flows, production and consumption statistics together in one place. Free dashboards are open to the public.
The platform was unveiled during the 142nd Session of the International Coffee Council in Geneva, Switzerland. It is built around an interactive globe and covers more than 200 countries. It combines daily price indicators, futures market data, certified stocks, trade corridors, and production and consumption figures. It consolidates data that was previously spread across multiple ICO sources, both public and private.
“Good data cannot eliminate volatility, but it can reduce uncertainty,” ICO Executive Director Vanúsia Nogueira said when announcing the launch.
Closing the gap between price signals and supply decisions
The ICO says the platform addresses a basic problem in coffee. Prices react within minutes, but investments in planting and farm rehabilitation take years to affect supply. Producers, traders and policymakers often make decisions in between those two timelines using fragmented information. The platform is meant to give them one consistent reference point.
A market overview dashboard puts several major indicators side by side, including global production against consumption and supply-and-demand balances. Users can also switch between trade flows, production, consumption, balance and price views. Results can be displayed as a map or a table, and the interface is available in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
What the data shows
The platform’s trade-flow view maps 246 export corridors for 2025, totalling 141.8 million 60-kg bags in green bean equivalent. Brazil dominates the top routes:
- Brazil to Germany: 5.42 million bags
- Brazil to the United States: 5.40 million bags
- Colombia to the United States: 5.30 million bags
- Vietnam to Germany: 3.58 million bags
Uganda to Italy, at 2.89 million bags, is the only African corridor in the top ten.
Free access, with limits
The latest full year of data is free, while historical series and data extraction are reserved for ICO members and subscribers. Country analysis, trade reports and supply-and-demand modules also sit behind a sign-in.
The launch expands public access to ICO data. The organization’s earlier World Coffee Statistics Database, launched in January 2022, was open only to ICO members and subscribers of ICO publications. The ICO’s statistics section holds data on exports, imports, prices, prices paid to growers, production and stocks going back to 1963.
Why it matters for Ethiopia
Ethiopia is Africa’s largest coffee producer, and coffee is one of its most important sources of foreign exchange. Exporters, the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority, and analysts now have free, standardized access to global price and trade benchmarks. That can help with export pricing, choosing destination markets, and tracking competitors such as Uganda, which is building strong corridors into Europe.
The platform is available at data.ico.org. Inquiries can be sent to stats@ico.org.
