EthSwitch, Ethiopia’s national payment switch, has reported a gross profit before tax of ETB 2.6 billion for the 2025/26 fiscal year, reflecting continued growth in the country’s interoperable digital payments ecosystem.
According to the company, it processed 387 million interoperable transactions during the financial year, with a combined value of ETB 1.26 trillion across its payment network.
Peer-to-peer (P2P) transfers accounted for the largest share of activity, reaching 242.6 million transactions valued at ETB 1.06 trillion. ATM transactions totaled 131.5 million, with a value of ETB 189.2 billion, while point-of-sale (POS) payments reached 3.9 million transactions worth ETB 10.7 billion. Transactions conducted through the ETHQR platform amounted to 551,500, with a total value of ETB 6.8 billion.
The fiscal year also marked several strategic milestones for the national switch. EthSwitch launched its new five-year strategic plan covering 2026/27 to 2030/31, outlining its roadmap for growth and innovation.
The company said its EthioPay Instant Payment System (IPS) was recognized by AfricaNenda as a matured payment platform. During the year, it also completed the migration of all peer-to-peer transfers onto the Instant Payment System, strengthening the country’s instant payment infrastructure.
EthSwitch officially launched the EthioPay brand and hosted the Ethiopian Digital Payment Conference 2.0, attended by senior government and financial sector leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh and National Bank of Ethiopia Governor Eyob Tekalign. The company also organized a CEO executive workshop in collaboration with Glenbrook Partners to accelerate EthioPay adoption.
During the fiscal year, the EthioPay Instant Payment System surpassed one million P2P transactions in a single day, processing ETB 5.1 billion in transaction value, its highest daily volume to date.
EthSwitch also received international recognition, winning the Best Financial Inclusion Technology Initiative in Africa award at the TAB Global Business Achievement Awards> held in Kuala Lumpur.
The company said it will continue working with shareholders, financial institutions, and ecosystem partners to expand interoperable digital payments and support greater financial inclusion across Ethiopia.
