Ethiopian Airlines and Visa have announced an expanded collaboration aimed at growing co-branded payment card offerings and enhancing the travel payment experience for customers.
The agreement builds on a long-standing relationship between the two organizations and is designed to promote seamless, secure, and rewarding payment solutions for travelers, while supporting Ethiopian Airlines’ broader growth strategy.
Under the partnership, the two companies will jointly work to drive adoption and usage of co-branded Visa cards. The initiative is expected to provide customers with more convenient ways to pay for flights and everyday purchases, while also strengthening loyalty and engagement.
“Travel and payments are intrinsically linked, and this collaboration reflects our shared commitment to simplifying how customers pay and travel,” said Yared Endale. He added that the partnership will help deliver greater value, convenience, and choice to travelers across the region while supporting the evolution of digital payments.
The collaboration will also include joint marketing efforts and innovation initiatives aimed at improving the end-to-end customer journey, from booking and payments to loyalty programs. Leveraging Visa’s global payment network, the partnership is expected to enable secure and reliable cross-border transactions for both local and international travelers.
Speaking on behalf of the airline, Rahel Assefa emphasized the airline’s commitment to customer convenience. “At Ethiopian, we continuously strive to provide our passengers with a seamless range of options to access and enjoy our services. Our collaboration with Visa aims to further enhance payment options and improve convenience at every stage of the customer journey,” she said.
Ethiopian Airlines operates one of the largest aviation networks in Africa, connecting the continent to major global destinations. The strengthened partnership with Visa reflects a shared vision to support Africa’s aviation sector, improve customer experience, and accelerate the adoption of digital payment solutions.
The announcement also aligns with Visa’s broader strategy of partnering with airlines, merchants, and financial institutions to enable secure, innovative, and inclusive payment ecosystems across Africa.
