Ethio telecom has launched its third superfast electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Addis Ababa. The new station, opened today in the Summit Fyele Bet area, can charge 16 cars at the same time, boosting the company’s growing EV charging network.
At the launch event, Ethio telecom’s CEO said the project reflects Ethiopia’s wider digital transformation and its efforts to build a climate-resilient green economy. She noted that as electric vehicles become more common in the country, it is important to expand green infrastructure. This is why Ethio telecom has been working rapidly to build and put new charging stations into operation.
The new station is superfast, energy-efficient, and uses artificial intelligence to charge each battery at the optimal speed, ensuring both efficiency and sustainability.
Ethio telecom has already deployed stations that can serve up to 32 vehicles at a time. Since February 2017, its EV charging network has supplied 4,349,761.54 kilowatt hours of electricity to 165,000 electric cars.
This clean energy usage has prevented 6,081,447.62 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions — equal to planting more than 30,444 trees.
Ethio telecom says it will continue to support Ethiopia’s digital economy and sustainable development by expanding green technologies across the country.
