The license, which became effective on February 12, 2026, increases the total number of licensed Capital Market Service Providers in Ethiopia to 16. Of these, nine are authorized to operate as Securities Investment Advisors.

In addition to the corporate license, ECMA approved three appointed representatives and endorsed the appointment of five board directors within BDO Consulting PLC, enabling the firm to formally begin its advisory operations in the country’s emerging capital market.

Speaking at the official licensing ceremony, ECMA Director General Hanal Tehelku underscored the critical role securities investment advisors play in supporting market development and protecting investor interests. She emphasized that professional advisory services are essential to promote informed investment decisions and build confidence in Ethiopia’s nascent capital market ecosystem.

The Director General also urged all licensed service providers to prioritize transparency, regulatory compliance, and investor protection as foundational pillars of their operations.

The move reflects ongoing efforts by the Authority to expand the range of professional services available in the capital market and strengthen institutional capacity as Ethiopia advances its financial sector reforms.
