Awash Insurance S.A. has made history by becoming the first private insurer in Ethiopia to record a pre-tax profit surpassing 1 billion birr—a milestone marking its 31st consecutive year of profitability.
At its 31st Annual General Meeting held on October 22, 2025, the company announced a 27% increase in gross profit compared to the previous fiscal year. Awash’s paid-up capital grew by 38% to ETB 2.65 billion, while its subscribed capital reached ETB 4 billion.
The insurer posted robust growth across its business lines:
- General Insurance: +43% growth
- Life Insurance: +48% growth
- Takaful (Islamic Insurance): +124% growth
Total revenue reached ETB 4.53 billion, affirming Awash’s market leadership in both General and Life Insurance for the 13th consecutive year. The company now serves over 100,000 customers through 71 branches and 300+ agents, and recently introduced crop insurance to support Ethiopia’s agricultural sector.
Awash also strengthened its digital transformation, advancing toward a new digital service channel and partnering with Safaricom Ethiopia (M-PESA) to enable diverse payment options.
Construction of its landmark 4B+G+35 headquarters is progressing, symbolizing the insurer’s ambition for long-term growth.
In its commitment to social responsibility, Awash contributed over ETB 30 million to national causes and became the only Ethiopian insurer to sign the Nairobi Declaration on Climate Change.
