Awash Bank has launched five new card services in partnership with Mastercard, expanding its domestic and international payment offerings following Ethiopia’s foreign currency reforms.

The launch ceremony was held today at Elilly International Hotel in Addis Ababa, attended by Awash Bank officials and Mastercard representatives.

Speaking at the event, Awash Bank CEO Tsehay Shiferaw said the new services were developed in response to government reforms related to foreign currency. He noted that the partnership would improve the speed, security and accessibility of international card payments, enabling customers to access global services more conveniently.

The new portfolio comprises four international cards and one domestic contactless debit card. The international options include the Awash World Elite International Debit Card, Awash Platinum International Prepaid Card, Awash Gold International Prepaid Card and Awash Corporate International Prepaid Card. The domestic offering is the Awash Plus Domestic Contactless Debit Card.

Shiferaw said the new products strengthen the bank’s digital service offerings and reflect its commitment to adopting modern technologies to improve customer experience.

A Mastercard representative welcomed the partnership, describing Awash Bank as Ethiopia’s leading private bank and highlighting the strategic significance of the collaboration.

The launch expands Awash Bank’s card services as Ethiopia’s financial sector adapts to changes in foreign currency regulations and the growing demand for digital payment solutions.
