The Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) has announced the appointment of its new Board of Directors, a move that underscores the country’s commitment to building a transparent and inclusive capital market.
Dr. Brook Taye, a key figure in Ethiopia’s financial sector reform, has been named Chairperson of the Board, while Mr. Helaway Tadesse will serve as Deputy Chair.

In a statement, the ESX welcomed the diverse group of professionals, noting their expertise spans finance, economics, corporate governance, and international markets. The exchange said the new leadership would provide “strategic guidance and oversight” as Ethiopia prepares to launch its first stock market.
“The appointment of this board strengthens ESX’s leadership and reaffirms its commitment to establishing a transparent, vibrant, and inclusive securities market,” the statement read.
The establishment of a functioning securities exchange is considered a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s economic reform agenda. By mobilizing capital, facilitating investment, and improving governance, the ESX is expected to play a vital role in driving economic growth and attracting both domestic and foreign investors.
