Awash Capital S.A. Officially Launches Operations as Ethiopia’s Fourth Investment Bank

Awash Capital S.A. has officially commenced operations, becoming the fourth licensed investment bank in Ethiopia under the regulation of the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA).

The Chairman of the Board of Awash Capital S.A. and Chief Executive Officer of Awash Bank, Ato Tsehai Shiferaw, announced that the investment bank received its license from the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority on November 10, 2018, authorizing it to provide full-fledged investment banking services in line with the country’s capital market laws and regulatory standards.

Awash Capital S.A. has been established with a paid-up capital of 200 million birr. The company is structured as a subsidiary of Awash Bank, which holds a 95 percent ownership stake, while the remaining 5 percent is owned by various stakeholders.

According to the announcement, Awash Capital S.A. will offer a wide range of investment banking services, including:

  • Corporate finance and advisory services
  • Underwriting and brokerage services
  • Research and market intelligence
  • Green finance and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) advisory services

The launch of Awash Capital S.A. marks another milestone in the development of Ethiopia’s nascent capital market, as the country continues to expand its financial infrastructure and diversify sources of long-term financing for businesses and the broader economy.
