Visa has inaugurated a new office in Addis Ababa, signaling a deeper commitment to Ethiopia and a broader strategic push across Eastern Africa.
The new office marks a significant milestone for Visa, which has maintained a presence in Ethiopia for several years but is now scaling up its operations as the country’s financial sector continues to evolve.
According to the company, its Ethiopia-based team has grown substantially in recent years and now supports multiple markets across the Eastern Africa region. From its Addis Ababa base, Visa works closely with clients, partners, and stakeholders not only in Ethiopia but also across five additional markets, positioning the office as a regional hub for operations and engagement.
The expansion comes at a time when Ethiopia is gradually opening up its financial ecosystem, including digital payments and capital markets, creating new opportunities for global players like Visa.
“This new office brings us closer to our partners and provides the space needed as we enter a new phase of growth,” the company noted, emphasizing the importance of proximity and collaboration in driving its regional strategy.
Beyond its operational significance, the office also incorporates cultural and creative elements. Notably, the space features a mural inspired by the FIFA World Cup, created by Ethiopian artist Efrata Birhanu, reflecting a blend of global influence and local identity.
Visa’s expansion underscores growing international interest in Ethiopia’s financial services sector, particularly as digital payments, fintech innovation, and financial inclusion gain momentum across the country and the wider region.
