In a landmark development for Ethiopia’s capital market, Wegagen Capital Investment Bank has executed the country’s first-ever inter-broker trade involving Government Treasury Bills and listed securities on the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX).
The historic transaction was unveiled during the official listing ceremony of Government T-bills and the launch of securities trading operations, held on July 11 at the Sheraton Addis Hotel.
Wegagen Capital, one of the licensed brokers and pioneer market-makers on the newly formed exchange, played a key role in facilitating the inaugural inter-broker trade. The move highlights the firm’s active involvement in shaping Ethiopia’s modern financial market infrastructure and advancing its capital market agenda.
Prior to this official milestone, Wegagen Capital had been collaborating closely with ESX and the Central Securities Depository (CSD) to conduct live pilot trades since June 18, 2025. These trials successfully tested the full trading cycle — from order placement to final settlement.
As a private investment bank at the forefront of the sector, Wegagen Capital reaffirmed its commitment to supporting inclusive economic growth through innovation and transparency in the financial market.
This milestone marks a major step in deepening Ethiopia’s capital markets and expanding investor participation in government and corporate securities.
